The RSS has appointed two new Honorary Officers - Richard Pugh and Paul Allin - for the areas of Membership and National Statistics respectively. Their appointment was approved by RSS Council in its March 2022 meeting. Both will serve a four-year term in their new role (until the end of 2025) as a member of RSS Council. Paul Allin will also chair the Society's National Statistics Advisory Group (NSAG).

Richard is chief data scientist at Ascent, leading its data consulting team. Back in 2002 he co-founded Mango, a company that provides statistical consulting services based on the R language. Richard also founded the LondonR and EARL events, was the first R Consortium Chair, and co-authored the book 'R in 24 Hours'. With over 20 years experience in the statistical and data science arena, he has been a recognised member of the DataIQ '100 Most Influential People in Data' since 2019.
At the RSS, Richard has been an active member of the RSS Data Science Section since its inception and has been involved in holding a number of events (including sessions at the RSS Conference) on the intersection of statistics and data science.

Paul is a visiting professor in the Department of Mathematics, Imperial College London, where he researches and writes about official statistics. For the last six years he has also chaired the UK Statistics User Forum. Prior to that he worked as a statistician, researcher, or policy analyst in the Office for National Statistics (ONS) and other departments, latterly as director of the measuring national wellbeing programme at ONS until 2012.
He has been a Chartered Statistician since 1993 and is a former Honorary Secretary of the RSS (1994-2000).
