RSS seeks help from members to improve diversity monitoring

The RSS would like to learn more about who our members are and how well we represent the wider population of statisticians, data scientists and data users.

As part of this the RSS has made it possible to record personal characteristics in My RSS, and we are asking all members to complete their member profiles.

Improving equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) in the Society is important to our staff, members and the wider profession. In 2020, then president Deborah Ashby outlined the Society’s first plan to promote EDI. Since then, we have appointed the Society's first Honorary Officer for EDI, Dr Eugenie Hunsicker, and launched a data science mentorship scheme to support under-represented groups in the field.

We’d now like to know more about who our members are so that we can better serve the community, and actively encourage membership from currently under-represented groups. This is the start of an ongoing data collection process and one that will change and evolve as our membership does.

Please read our privacy policy about how we store your data, and get in touch via RSSMembership@rss.org.uk if you’d like to know more about our EDI work.
