Quantum computing has the potential to revolutionise productivity and efficiency across various industries, including chemicals, pharmaceuticals, renewable energy, and financial services. By leveraging the unique capability to manipulate all possible states of quantum particles, rather than relying solely on the binary signals of traditional computing, quantum computers can outperform classical computers in speed and efficiency in certain scenarios. They can also tackle complex tasks currently beyond the reach of conventional machines, making them particularly valuable for modelling intricate processes and complex systems. This event will explore the latest advancements in quantum computing, its integration with analytics, data science, and statistics, and its broader impact on accelerating knowledge discovery:

  • "A Gentle Introduction to Quantum Computing" - Fergus Kidd & Benedict Hazel
  • "The Quantum Paradigm for Accelerating Scientific Discovery" - Deepa Shinde
  • "Quantum Algorithms: The specifics and practicalities of value" - James Cruise
  • Panel Discussion

Benedict Hazel is a theoretical chemist turned IT consultant, working as a manager in the Software Engineering Practice at Avanade.  He specialises in the Microsoft .NET and Azure ecosystems and is keen on embracing innovation. [https://www.linkedin.com/in/benedict-hazel-05b98263/]

Fergus Kidd is Avanade’s Emerging Technology Research and Development Engineering lead, He works on developing assets and demonstrations around new and future technologies, focussing on innovative use cases to show the power of new technologies in the enterprise. Fergus has an academic background in physics, and a professional background in data science, and artificial intelligence. [https://www.linkedin.com/in/fergus-kidd-1a222667/]

Deepa Shinde has 19 years of experience in the IT industry and 5 years teaching STEM subjects. Deepa is part of Microsoft's Innovation team, serving as the Lead Pharma AI Architect for Microsoft UK. As one of the early Quantum Ambassadors at Microsoft, she is certified to engage with customers on both quantum computing and Microsoft's Quantum initiatives. James Cruise is the Technical Lead for quantum computing at Cambridge Consultants, developing novel capabilities to deliver early commercial value for clients. He combines deep technical expertise in quantum computing with an understanding of clients’ challenges to identify and develop key value propositions. James has a particular interest in understanding how to deliver value through practical hybrid quantum-classical computing and supporting the most ambitious clients in bringing about the quantum revolution sooner. Recently, he co-authored a report with colleagues on Capgemini on "Seizing the commercial value of quantum technology".
