Jack will talk about a mix of coral reef ecology, deep diving techniques, and statistics applied to these rarely seen ecosystems. A mix of high dimensional data, indicator analysis, K-means clustering, and numerical modelling now means we can identify a twilight zone reef in the face of environmental variability.

When someone mentions coral reefs, we think of snorkelling holidays and clear blue waters. But coral reefs can extend deeper than 30m into what’s known as the twilight zone.

Dr Jack Laverick (University of Strathclyde) will talk about a mix of coral reef ecology, deep diving techniques, and statistics applied to these rarely seen ecosystems. A mix of high dimensional data, indicator analysis, K-means clustering, and numerical modelling now means we can identify a twilight zone reef in the face of environmental variability.
