The
Royal Statistical Society’s Merseyside Local Group are pleased to announce our next event showcasing the use of AI, statistics, and data science within computer games.
Gaming has not only grown into a major media industry, but has catalysed development of new computing technologies, including advances in machine learning and methods for large data. We are hosting speakers from both academic research and industry to demonstrate how AI and data science are being used in shaping current gaming design principles and new technological innovations.
The event will take place on-campus at the University of Liverpool and is open to students and non-university members.

Dr Konstantinos Tsakalidis (University of Liverpool) – 'COMP342: Advanced Topics in Computer Game Development'
In this talk we will visit the newly introduced final-year undergraduate computer science module “COMP342: Advanced Topics in Computer Game Development”. The module aims to introduce to the students, the state-of-the-art in:
- Video game software development technologies, and
- Video game research, aligned over 5 distinct directions: game design, game AI, game content, game graphics and game physics.
The talk will cover each direction and will explain their interrelations and interdependencies, as well as the teaching and learning practices that aim to improve the research-oriented quality of the module’s continuous assessment assignments.
