International Development Section seeks committee members

The International Development Section of the Royal Statistical Society (RSS) is seeking passionate individuals to volunteer to join the committee for 2024.

About the International Development Section
With an audience that includes all those who work with statistics in a development context, we exist to further the work of the RSS in international development. We seek to support knowledge-sharing, best practice and partnerships between stakeholders working with international development statistics, particularly in the pursuit of the Sustainable Development Goals.

To that end, we organise online events and sessions at the RSS conference, some of which are available online on our YouTube channel. We also represent the RSS at PARIS21 and collaborate closely with the AIMS initiative, working jointly with other sections and local groups when the opportunity arises. Over the coming year, we are particularly keen that the new RSS strategy will include mention of how the Society fits into the international landscape of statistics.

The role
Joining the committee is a one-year commitment in the first instance and provides an opportunity to engage with experienced members of the development community. We meet around six times a year via teleconference, and are seeking people to contribute new ideas for activities and events related to our workstreams:
  1. Governance of international statistics
  2. Best practice in government statistics
  3. Statistical education, including how RSS educational initiatives might be taken forward in an international context
  4. Statistical literacy and communication, including how the RSS statistical literacy initiatives might be used in an international context
We are also seeking individuals who would be interested in developing an approach to our social media presence, newsletter and reporting. We would particularly encourage applications from individuals interested in officer roles, such as Chair, vice-Chair, Secretary or Meetings Secretary, now or in the future.

Apply
If you would like to be considered for one of the committee positions, please email internationaldevelop@rss.org.uk with a paragraph summarising your background, why you’d like to join and what you will contribute to the committee. The deadline is November 22nd 2023.

The RSS is committed to ensuring an inclusive and welcoming environment for all who care about good data and statistics. Please note that to take up a position you will need to be a Fellow of the RSS.
