The Council for Mathematical Sciences of which the RSS is a founding member, has appointed an executive committee and executive director as part of the set-up phase in the creation of the National Academy for the Mathematical Sciences.
The proposed academy will represent and advocate for the mathematical sciences and people who work in them including educators, practitioners and academics. It will operate across the whole of the mathematical sciences, including statistics and operational research.
Dr Christie Marr has been appointed as executive director and will be seconded from her current position as deputy director of the Isaac Newton Institute for Mathematical Sciences. She will start the role in mid-November.
The executive committee includes RSS VP for education and statistical literacy, Dr Sophie Carr and RSS fellows, Dame Jil Matheson and Sir Bernard Silverman.
