Meet the Programme Chair for RSS 2023 Conference

Mona Kanaan has been appointed as the programme chair for RSS 2023 Conference which will take place in Harrogate from 4-7 September next year.

Mona is a Professor in Applied Health Research and Statistics at the University of York and has over twenty-years of experience in designing and conducting randomised controlled trials (RCTs) including clustered and stepped-wedge clustered RCTs, observational studies, and statistical modelling of infectious diseases. She has worked on tobacco control and maternity related studies in low-middle income countries (LMIC), including Bangladesh, India, Lebanon, Pakistan, South Africa, and Syria.

Mona is a member of RSS Council and chairs the Society’s Medical Section. She is passionate about capacity strengthening in research in LMIC and the professional recognition and career development of applied statisticians working in fields related to health and social care.

Mona says: “It is a great honour to be invited to chair the programme of the 2023 Conference in Harrogate. I am looking forward to the conference showcasing the diversity of methodological research and application of statistics across a multitude of disciplines, in addition to the various contributions that address professional development.

“It is great to be part of the organising committee of a conference that aims to build a better understanding of our world and inform decision making by bringing together members of academia, industry, research institutes, and public bodies, from the UK and across the globe.
