Healthcare data analytics award 2022: now open for entries

The annual Florence Nightingale Award for Excellence in Healthcare Data Analytics has launched for 2022.

Named in honour of the first female fellow of the RSS, the award is aimed at practitioners whose work in data analytics has played a crucial role in delivering innovative improvements for UK healthcare. It is supported by the Health Foundation, an independent charity committed to bringing about better health and health care for people in the UK.

Now in its third year, the award was won last year by the Covid-19 Population Risk Assessment team for ‘QCovid’, a predictive model which estimates an individual’s Covid risk. The model was applied at scale so at-risk adults in England could be identified, prioritised for vaccination and added to the new national ‘Shielded Patients List’.

Stian Westlake, Chief Executive of the RSS, said: ‘Healthcare data analysts have done so much in improving outcomes for patients and we have seen some fantastic examples of this since the creation of this award. I look forward to seeing this year’s entries and further examples of where data has been used to make tangible improvements to the UK’s healthcare system.’

Adam Steventon, Director of data analytics at the Health Foundation, said: ‘The pandemic continues to show us the importance of innovation in the use of analytics and data-driven technology, and the critical role it is playing in supporting the response to Covid-19 and the recovery of the NHS and social care moving forward. We look forward to seeing how organisations and individuals are promoting better use of data to improve health and social care services across the country.’

The deadline for entries is Monday 11 April and the award will be presented in the summer. To learn more about the criteria and to download the entry form, go to: https://rss.org.uk/The-Florence-Nightingale-Award/
