RSS membership now exceeds 10,000

The RSS is celebrating the increase in membership which broke through the 10,000 figure at the start of this year.

Our growing community includes 6,000 designated 'fellows' as well as our free e-categories that includes students and teacher members.

Nicola Emmerson, RSS director of membership and professional affairs, commented: 'At a time when many other professional bodies are experiencing a decline in their member numbers, we can be extremely proud to be bucking the trend. In particular, we are seeing a growth in students and new graduates who are attracted by our member engagement initiatives and professional pathways: they are the future of both the organisation and the discipline. We have also increased our number of corporate partners and would urge anyone who believes that their own organisation could benefit from participating in the scheme, to let us know.'

While the largest growth has been in e-membership, we have also seen an increase in paying members over the past year. The Society is also retaining more members as we have made a concerted effort to engage with members and help them make the most out of their membership. Particularly successful initiatives have been the Society's local group based in Nigeria.

Nicola continues: ‘Obviously the more members we have, the more opportunities there are for members to network with, and learn from, each other. We encourage all members interested in becoming more involved in the Society to have a look at the many opportunities there are to get involved with our work.’
