RSS lends support to Validate AI conference

The RSS is supporting a conference organised to address the need to ensure proper validation and maintenance of artificial intelligence.

Validate AI will take place at The Royal Society in London on 5 November 2019.

With AI now being used in many sectors, from manufacturing and financial services to policing, health and government, there is potential to provide remarkable economic and social benefits. However, there are also risks that we may not be ready to deal with. The Validate AI conference has been organised to address these challenges, such as the safety and reliability of AI systems, how to monitor them and test that they are working properly, as well as ensuring that they do produced unbiased decisions that do not lead to discrimination.

The emphasis of the conference is on technical approaches to dealing with issues around AI validation and on how such developments may impact ethical concerns and society.

Prominent speakers with practical experience in AI from the Alan Turing Institute, University of Oxford, Imperial College London, Google DeepMind, Capital One, FiveAI, and Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs, will discuss relevant issues around validation and maintenance of AI.

Delegates will be able to share ideas and concerns, promote collaboration and act as a catalyst for decision makers to adopt more rigorous validation methods or generate new areas of academic research in AI validation.

The steering group includes RSS fellows, including Professor David Hand, Dr Tony Bellotti of Imperial College London and Tom Smith of the ONS Data Science campus.
