Former RSS president David Hand has been awarded the Research Medal from the International Federation of Classification Societies.
The award was given in recognition of David's 'fundamental contributions to the advancement of Classification, Clustering, Multivariate Statistics, Computational Statistics and the foundations of Statistics.'
The citation went on to note that David's publications (more than 300 papers and 29 books) 'have been greatly influential in many research areas related to the broad field of Classification.' It also references his work as President of the IFCS from 2006 to 2007.
