Former RSS President Peter Diggle has been confirmed to deliver the Society's Barnett Lecture at our 2018 conference in Cardiff.
Taking place on 6 September, the Barnett Lecture is in memory of Vic Barnett, a former RSS council member who helped pioneer the Society's Environmental Statistics section.
The Barnett Lecture is delivered by the winner of the annual Barnett Award, which Peter won this year for his outstanding and sustained contribution within the field of environmental statistics, particularly in relation to the area of environmental health sciences.
Peter is recognised as being one of the most distinguished and influential statisticians working in the area of developing and fitting statistical models to spatial and spatio-temporal data applied to the environmental sciences. He has published extensively in both the statistical and environmental sciences literatures and written several substantial books establishing the statistical methods as core tools within the environmental sciences.
Previous winners of the Barnett Award include Peter Guttorp (2017), Noel Cressie (2016) and Jonathan Tawn, who won the inaugural prize in 2015.
A title for Peter's forthcoming Barnett Lecture will be announced in due course.
