ESRC announced as sponsor for RSS 2018 journalism awards

We are very pleased to announce that the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) are again sponsoring our annual Statistical Excellence in Journalism Awards.

This is the 12th year of the awards, which celebrate journalists’ use of statistics to question, analyse and investigate the issues that affect society.

Previous winners include journalists from the BBC Reality Check team, BuzzFeed, the Financial Times and the Guardian

Hetan Shah, RSS executive director, said: 'The ESRC, in its championing of the good use of data and statistics in social science, is an ideal partner for our journalism awards. We’re delighted to have them on board again this year.’

Professor Jennifer Rubin, executive chair of the ESRC said: 'The ESRC is delighted to support the awards again in 2018. This is an especially important time for the media to hold itself to the highest standards, informing the public and building trust through articles supported by reliable and robust evidence and data. I look forward to the evening and to seeing the innovative, exciting and rigorous way journalists have used statistics in their work.’

The awards ceremony will take place on the evening of the 12 July at the RSS Lecture Theatre in London, introduced by RSS president, Professor Sir David Spiegelhalter. RSS fellows and those with an interest in our work are encouraged to register their attendance.
