Bookings now open for Annual Analytics Summit

The RSS has once again joined forces with the OR Society for the 2018 Analytics Summit, a day of talks and workshops covering the crossover between operational research, analytics and data science.

Taking place on 12 June, the event brings together experts in analytics, big data and data science from government, journalism, industry and academia. This year, speakers in the morning session are from the Home Office, Trainline, News UK and Transport for the North who will provide their own insights in this area.

This will be followed by a choice of more detailed afternoon workshops on a number of hot topics. The day-long summit will close with a plenary talk from Appolo Tankeh, data science lead for IBM’s Client Financing.

Speaking about the event, OR President Ruth Kaufman said: 'It has become apparent that the overlap between analytics, data science and OR can be enormously fruitful. Academic researchers and software companies have developed the existing toolkit of OR to apply optimisation and simulation methods to datasets of a size that would have been impossible a few years ago. The methods of data science enable OR people to address challenges that we once could not have considered. And perhaps most significant of all, it is clear that however big the dataset or sophisticated the algorithms, those who wish to make the most of them must still address the age-old small data issues of understanding the problem context, the strategic question, the importance of communications, and the implementation process, to which OR brings indispensable expertise.

'The Analytics Summit is the only analytics event tailored for the needs of people working in and around this crossover area: it is the place to come for insights and ideas, for meeting and discussing with peers, and for practical learning through hands-on workshops.'

The Annual Analytics Summit 2018 takes place at IET, Savoy Place, London, WC2R OBL on Tuesday 12 June 2018, from 9am to 5pm.

Early bird rates are currently available; for details of those and the full programme, go to www.analytics-events.co.uk.
