Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, participants will be able to produce reports and dashboards in Power BI, drawing on and transforming data from a variety of sources. They will be able to create multi-page reports and dashboards based on their own data and their organisation’s themes with a variety of graphical and tabular outputs.

Topics Covered

Day 1 will cover:
  • Overview of the workflow with a quick start to produce our first Power BI report followed by focus on the visuals (the chart types, tables and slicers)
  • Working with the data including an introduction to the Power Query editor; introduction to the DAX formula language; filters; visual headers; drill
Day 2 will cover:
  • Using basic statistics (correlation, linear regression and t tests); more on DAX
  • Power BI service; report and dashboard deployment; bookmarks for story telling; security

Target Audience

The course is designed for those with no knowledge of Power BI but are responsible for producing reports and disseminating analysis. The course will be particularly helpful for those wanted to communicate their data analysis to a wider audience.

Knowledge Assumed

Knowledge of Excel is assumed. Knowledge of pivot tables (especially Power Pivot) is especially helpful as is an understanding of basic statistics.

Each attendee will need to have their own laptop with the free version of Power BI desktop already installed
