The RSS Environmental Statistics Section will host its AGM and a seminar on the topic of 'UK food security under climate change' with Pauline Scheelbeek, Associate professor in planetary health and nutritional epidemiology, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and Jemma Davie, Climate security team, UK Met Office.

The UK food system is highly dependent on imports from other countries, around 46% of the food consumed is currently imported. Adverse weather events in other parts of the world can therefore have a significant impact on the availability of certain products in the UK, as the tomato shortage clearly demonstrated earlier this year. In this seminar, we will have two talks discussing the impact of climate change on UK food security. The first one will cover methods for estimating the future risk of crop pest, using the UNSEEN approach, with the second talk focused on mapping the countries the UK food system currently relies on and their projected climate vulnerability. The event will kick off with an overview of the Environmental Statistics Section's activities over the past year followed by the seminar.
