The RSS Nigeria Local Group in collaboration with the Department of Statistics, College of Physical Sciences, Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta, Nigeria, is organising a workshop on the Covid-19 response in Nigeria.

The workshop aims to bring and form networks among stakeholders for possible collaboration on impacts of Covid-19 on health, economies, food security and poverty. It is aimed at general public and policy makers, and attendance is by invitation-only. If you are interested or want more information, please contact the organisers at rssnigeriagroup@gmail.com

This workshop is funded by the 2020 Mardia Prize Interdisciplinary Grant of the Royal Statistical Society awarded to Dr Olaniyi Mathew Olayiwola. Funding is made available over two years to support these workshops. Founded by RSS fellow Kanti Mardia, the Mardia Prize was created to fund cutting-edge interdisciplinary workshops bringing together statisticians with researchers from other scientific communities

 

Confirmed speakers with their presentations are as follows:

Dr. Omobowale Omotola (Consultant Orthopaedic & Trauma Surgeon, Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta, OgunState, Nigeria) - overview of Covid 19 in Nigeria; management, challenges and solutions.

Dr Olatundun Kajihausa (Senior Lecturer, Department of Food Science and Technology, Federal University of Agriculture, Abokiuta) - how Covid-19 pandemic has affected the food system's activities, crisis in food security and nutrition globally.

Dr. Dr. Olayiwola, Olaniyi Mathew (Head, Department of Statistics, College of Physical Sciences, Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria. The Chair, Royal Statistical Society Nigeria Local Group) and Mrs. O. A. Wale-Orojo (Department of Statistics, College of Physical Sciences, Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria.) - An alternative Covid-19 Carriers Contact Tracing Approach; Design, modelling and Application

Dr. Okanlade A. Lawal-Adebowale (Department of Agricultural Extension and Rural Development, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria) empirical assessment of Nigerians’ conviction of reality of COVID-19 amidst the lockdown in 2020.

Dr S.O. Oyamakin (Biostatistics Unit, Dept of Statistics, University of Ibadan, Nigeria) - The implication of case fatality rates and Infectious fatality rates of covid-19 across the Nigeria states while some modeling approaches to reported deaths, cases, and recovered as a result of covid-19 will be discussed under the Numbers on Life initiative.

Dr. M. O. Adenomon (Senior Lecturer, Department of Statistics, Nasarawa State University Keffi, Nigeria) - Modelling the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on some Nigerian sectorial stocks; Evidence from GARCH models with structural breaks.

Dr Lawrence Olajide-Taiwo (Director of Research, Farming Systems and Extension Department, National Horticultural Research Institute, Ibadan) - observance of COVID-19 protocols among youths involved in food security competence enhancement initiatives during lockdown.

Mrs. Esther Ariyo (Center for Population Family And Health, Department of Sociology University of Antwerp, Belgium) - investigation of socio demographic determinants of children engagement in various home learning activities during lockdown in Nigeria

Professor K. Ayinde (Department of Statistics, Federal University of Technology, Akure, Ondo State, Nigeria) - modelling Covid-19 cases and relevant estimators

Dr Dauda Taofik (Reader and Head, Statistics and Biometrics Unit, Institute of Agricultural Research and Training, Obafemi Awolowo University, Moor Plantation, Ibadan, Nigeria) would be talking on *efficiency of Categorical Statistics for measuring the Effects of COVID 19 on Agricultural activities in South West Nigeria..
