The
Medical Section of the Royal Statistical Society (RSS) is seeking enthusiastic individuals to volunteer and join the Committee for 2025.
The Medical Section aims to develop and support the application of statistical methods in all branches of medicine. The committee is a mixture of statisticians working across sectors such as academia, industry, government and NHS.
We normally organise 4-5 public scientific meetings a year and organise sessions at the RSS and other relevant Statistical conferences. We also contribute to RSS discussion meetings, collaborate with other RSS sections and local groups, as well as other medical statistics and research groups, and make nominations for RSS honours and awards. We have an interest in public engagement and have developed a podcast.
Being a member of the Committee is a commitment and can be a very rewarding experience. It is also an opportunity to actively engage with others who are interested in, and appreciate, the importance of medical statistics. We are particularly looking for people who are keen to contribute new ideas for Medical Section activities, as well as actively help organise events. We are keen to have volunteers who are interested in taking officer roles, such as Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary, or Meetings Secretary, or who would be happy to represent us at discussion or publication network meetings. We hold around four committee meetings per year, which can be attended in person or remotely by Microsoft Teams. Much of our core business is communicated over email.
The RSS is committed to ensuring an inclusive and welcoming environment for all who care about good data and statistics. Please note that to take up a position you will need to be a fellow of the RSS.
The Medical Section welcomes applications from individuals outside of the UK, but please note that section business and events are carried-out during UK office hours and committee members would be expected to be available at these times.
If you would like to be considered for one of the Committee positions, simply fill in
this form, including a summary of your background, why you’d like to join, and what you will contribute to the committee by
6pm on Sunday 6th October 2024.
