We are now seeking applications from RSS members for our next round of Statistical Ambassadors. The scheme was set up in 2014 to find the next generation of statisticians and other data professionals with an enthusiasm for and interest in talking about statistics and data to non-expert audiences either via the media or public outreach.
Now looking for our fourth cohort of eight ambassadors, the group plays a crucial role in the Society, working with the media to ensure the proper communication of statistics while enthusing the public about the relevance of stats in their day-to-day lives.
The ambassadors have so far done interviews with BBC Breakfast, Radio 4 and others, given training to parliamentarians, performed shows at the Edinburgh Fringe, and they regularly provide their expertise to journalists at publications such as the Times, Daily Mail and Guardian.
Those who are successful in their applications – which will be selected via an expert panel – will be fully inducted with formal media and public outreach training as well as given regular opportunities to work with the media and other organisations.
This year’s programme is aimed at data professionals at all career stages, including those who are early-career with some level of outreach experience already, such as in public talks, blogging or social media, and who wish to develop these skills further.
Apply via this form by midday on Monday 24 June (make sure to read the criteria before you apply)
Any questions should be directed to head of media and external relations, Mags Wiley.
