On Wednesday 17 April 2021, the RSS Nigeria local group (NLG) organized an event titled 'Modelling Biological Concepts / Training on LaTeX' to students, researchers and data users virtually. The event was held in collaboration with the Department of Statistics, College of Physical Sciences, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Nigeria.
At around 10am, Dr OM Olayiwola, who chairs the NLG, welcomed the attendees and urged the them to pay rapt attention as it was a rare opportunity.
The first speaker, Dr Oluwafemi Samuel Oyamakin (Department of Statistics, University of Ibadan) discussed the evolutionary approach of modelling biological processes through the reparametrization of the Malthusian Growth Equation and its variants. Dr OS Ariyo (Department of Statistics, Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta Nigeria) discussed basic LaTeX and Beamer, introduction to Overleaf, Overleaf for research collaboration and report presentation with LaTeX.
Over 200 students from various sector and members of the RSS participated in the event. The event was brought to an end by 2pm.
