Want to get involved in a proposed RSS local group in India?

The Royal Statistical Society (RSS) is looking to create a new local group in India and is currently seeking ideas and interested RSS fellows for its committee.

The aim of RSS local groups is to plan and deliver an annual programme of events and activities in their local area to engage with those interested in statistics and data. They organise events on areas of statistical interest, occasionally in collaboration with RSS sections and special interest groups. They communicate the value of statistics to school pupils and university students; and enable sharing of statistical expertise with local organisations and industries in public and private sectors. The proposed India local group will aim to collaborate with similar statistical associations and industries in India for its events.

We are looking for volunteers who would be willing to serve on the local group committee, contribute new ideas and help to deliver the local group’s annual programme of events. In line with the Society’s diversity and inclusion policy and, to build an inclusive and welcoming environment, we are keen to have a good representation on the committee in relation to ethnic and gender diversity, geography, job sector, career path and stage.

If you are interested, please contact Amaka Nwagbara by Monday 31 January 2022, with a paragraph (up to 250 words) summarising the following:

  • your background
  • where you are based in India
  • why you would like to join the committee
  • what you will contribute to the committee.
Please note that you will need to be a fellow of the RSS to take up a position.

Do you have ideas that you would like to share with us? If you cannot commit to a role, we would still like to hear from you about the potential topics and statistical areas that you would like the local group to cover in its events. Also, if you know of any statistical associations or companies in India that we should connect with, please let Amaka know.
