The Emerging Applications Section (EAS) of the Royal Statistical Society (RSS) is seeking enthusiastic individuals to join the committee for 2021.
The EAS offers a forum for statistical applications that did not fall into the remit of another of the other Sections. The role of EAS is to play a more active and forward-looking role in the Society’s strategic objective of greater understanding of an increasingly complex world. We normally organise 2-3 events a year and sessions at the RSS conference as well as other statistical conferences. Recent examples include the “eDNA: Challenges and Opportunities” online meeting and the session “Wasn't synthesis just in the 80s? A chat about modern day synthetic data” at the RSS 2020 Conference.
Being a member of the committee is a very rewarding experience. We are particularly looking for people who are keen to contribute new ideas for meetings and events, as well as discussing on the definition of “emerging applications”. In a non-Covid scenario, we hold one online committee meeting every two months and one AGM at Errol Street per year, London (travel expenses paid).
If you would like to be considered for the committee, simply send an email (subject line “Emerging Applications Committee 2021”) to Clara Grazian at

For the 2021 committee, we particularly welcome applications from early career academic or industry statisticians from different disciplinary backgrounds.
The RSS is committed to ensuring an inclusive and welcoming environment for all who care about good data and statistics.
