Women In Science awards: Call for nominations

The call for nominations for the 2020 L’Oreal-UNESCO For Women In Science International Awards has just opened, and the nomination deadline is 12 June 2019. RSS members are encouraged to consider nominating suitable fellows for this award.

The 2020 edition of the Awards will designate five outstanding female scientific researchers in the life sciences, each working in one of the following regions: Africa & the Arab States, Asia-Pacific, Europe, Latin America and North America. Each of the Laureates will receive an award of €100,000.

To be considered eligible, the candidates must be:

  • Nominated in writing by an eminent scientist
  • Recognised for their excellence among the international scientific community
  • Actively involved in scientific research in the Life Sciences.

The nomination would include:

  • CV
  • List of publications and patents
  • Letters of recommendation.

In addition to the International Awards, L’Oreal also awards fellowship grants to postdoctoral researchers – in the UK, these are worth £15,000. Researchers would normally apply for the fellowship themselves. The application dates for the 2020 fellowships have not yet been announced. However, based on previous years, it is likely that nominations will open in December 2019 and close in January or February 2020.
