Action Tutoring is an education charity that delivers tutoring programmes, in partnership with schools, to support disadvantaged pupils across seven cities and areas (Birmingham, Bristol, Liverpool, London, Newcastle, Sheffield and Sussex).
The charity engages with local volunteers to deliver English and mathematics tuition to disadvantaged pupils. The commitment is just one hour per week, over the course of 8-10 weeks. Action Tutoring trains and supports its volunteers to develop over the time they are involved.
The tutoring takes place at the same time each week and the weekly session usually consists of 8-10 volunteer tutors supporting between 10 and 20 pupils. Action Tutoring has opportunities available in each of its seven cities and areas; and applications can be made at any time.
The benefits of getting involved are extensive: from supporting and enabling young people to succeed, to meeting other like-minded individuals in the community. There is the opportunity to develop and enhance a wide range of skills; together with sharing your knowledge and experience. Action Tutoring’s volunteers range from 18 to 80 years and no previous tutoring experience is required.
