Volunteers sought for committee of proposed finance and economics special interest group

The Royal Statistical Society is looking to establish a new special interest group (SIG) for finance and economics and we are looking for female volunteers to join the initial committee.

Special interest groups are formed for a three-year period to gauge interest in a particular statistical topic or interest area. They are led by a committee who oversees the planning and delivery of a programme of events and activities. Members of the committee will serve a three-year term and will meet at least twice every year – this will include virtual meetings. They work in line with the strategy of the Society, namely: to strengthen the discipline; support the profession; to promote statistical literacy and to ensure statistics are used in the public interest.

The proposed SIG aims to promote the use of statistics and statistical methodology in economics and finance. They are looking to foster and develop working relationships between statisticians, economists and other professions working in finance, economics and related commercial and policy areas.

We are looking for female professionals working in government, non-profit, for-profit or private sector, who are willing to help determine the strategic direction of the SIG and interested in organising events and other activities to engage the finance and economics communities.

Robert O'Neill, who has proposed the group, said: "The new special interest group is important as it will give academics, professionals and other interested parties a chance to come together and to discuss how the changing nature of technology, applications and data collection are affecting finance and economics and to find new ways of working together."

If you are interested or wish to discuss serving on the initial committee, please contact Amaka Nwagbara, with a paragraph (no more than 250 words) summarising your background and why you would like to join the committee.
