The Young Statisticians Section (YSS) of the Royal Statistical Society (RSS) is seeking enthusiastic individuals to join the YSS committee for 2020.
The YSS exists to support and bring together statisticians in the first 10 years of their careers – including students. They run a number of events each year for young statisticians, including careers days, webinars, competitions, and a variety of sessions at the RSS Annual Conference, as well as supporting numerous other conferences and events in the statistical calendar. See their Twitter for further details of YSS events and activities!
Being a volunteer for the YSS committee is a commitment but very rewarding (and fun!). They are looking for people with new and creative ideas for reaching out to the early-career statistics community, and to help organise events targeted at young statisticians.
You will be expected to attend three committee meetings per year, represent the YSS and RSS at events (reasonable travel expenses paid), and help to plan and run events.
If you would like to be considered for one of the committee positions, send an email (subject line “YSS Committee 2020”) to statsyss@gmail.com by 5pm on Friday 20 September, with a short statement (up to 250 words) summarising your background and why you want to join. Please note that to take up a position you must be or willing to become a full fellow of the RSS and within the first 10 years of your statistical career.
