RSS seeks volunteers to join Review Panel for Statisticians for Society

Statisticians for Society is a pro bono service created by the RSS to offer the professional expertise of RSS fellows to third sector organisations. This initiative aims to match charities with RSS fellows who have the skills and experience they need.

What is involved?
We are looking to set up a Review Panel to aid us in the delivery of our review process. Members of the Review Panel will check the work that was done by volunteer statisticians before it is handed over to the charity. They will make sure the work meets the charity’s needs and matches what was agreed in the initial project scope. Each panel member will be assigned a project to review and this review should take 1-2 days. You will be provided with a project report and other supporting documents to help you understand what was requested and delivered. We will mostly communicate via email, but there may be an occasional request for teleconference calls with the appointed volunteer or project officer for Statisticians for Society.

We are looking to appoint RSS fellows with statistical expertise and good knowledge of statistics, who can demonstrate the following experience and attributes:

  • 5 years or more field experience
  • Proven ability to evaluate project reports and critique
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  • Consultancy skills
  • Project management (desirable)

How to apply?
If you are interested in getting involved, please submit your CV and cover letter (no more than 400 words) stating how your skills and experience are relevant to the role. The deadline for applications is Sunday 9 June 2019.
