We are looking for new members for both our Education Policy Advisory Group (EPAG) and our Education and Statistical Literacy Committee (ESLC).
Our work in this area is overseen by Sharon Witherspoon MBE FAcSS, our vice president for education and statistical literacy, supported by the EPAG and ESLC.

Numbers are everywhere and knowing how data are used is key to understanding the world and to developing a strong economy. RSS Education Policy Advisory Group
We are looking for new volunteers to join the EPAG. A good understanding of education policy is needed, though this could be in relation to different levels of schooling or higher education. Our policy work seeks to influence education curricula and policy to improve the quality of the teaching and learning of statistics and data. The EPAG provides advice and helps to formulate the Society’s consultation responses, research and policy work in statistical education. The EPAG also liaises on behalf of the Society with other key influencing organisations on education research and policy.
RSS Education and Statistical Literacy Committee
The Education and Statistical Literacy Committee is interested in statistical education practice, promoting careers in statistics and developing statistical literacy. The ESLC works with teachers and practitioners at all levels of education and promotes interaction between statisticians and those in the teaching profession to support high quality teaching of statistics. It encourages good practice in teaching and supports outreach activities in schools. The Committee oversees the Society’s statistical career promotion activities.
How would you be involved?
We hold at least one meeting each year, usually at our London office, and occasional telephone conferences as needed. Although as a volunteer role this is unpaid, we reimburse all reasonable travel expenses. We also communicate via email, particularly for more urgent requests and require responses in a timely manner.
How do you apply?
We will be appointing current RSS fellows and we are looking to co-opt one or two e-teachers or anyone with expertise in this area.

The RSS has noted that certain social groups and statistical specialisms have been under-represented in previous applications. It welcomes volunteers reflecting the full diversity of the Society in relation to gender, race, statistical specialisms, sectors of work, etc.
