Background

Muhammed Semakula, BSc, MSc, CStat PhD (C) is a Chartered Statistician and Data scientist with a strong knowledge in statistics methods and data analysis. He mainly works on observational health data focusing on statistical methodology and estimating inference, monitoring and evaluations, Demography and spatio-temporal modelling. Semakula has excellent transferable skills in data management, analysis and modelling as well as strategic planning and capacity building. Muhammed was part time assistant lecture of Biostatistics at University of Rwanda, African Center of excellence in Data Science, Visiting lecturer of spatial statistics and Impact evaluation methods at KIT, Netherlands, Instructor of statistics at Partner in Health (PIH). Mr. Semakula holds a degree in Applied Statistics from University of Rwanda, a Master's degree of Statistics, Biostatistics from University of Hasselt, Belgium. PhD (C) final year, in joint PhD of science in Statistics and PhD in Data science: Biostatistics at Hasselt University in Belgium and University Rwanda- African Centre of excellence in Data Science, Bio-Statistics. Mr. Semakula is a voluntary research assistant at University of Hasselt in Belgium and Fellow at Harvard University, department of Biostatistics through ARISE. He is advanced quantitative analyst and data handling and strong knowledge in data modelling and management of big datasets such as national surveys.He is working as Health scientific innovation analyst in Rwanda Biomedical Center and lead of COVID-19 data science and IT solutions response for Rwanda. He has been a senior strategic advisor, Director of research statistics in Medical Research Center and member of National Health Research committee. He has worked and contributed to strategy for the harmonization of statistics in African countries (SHaSA) and national strategies for the development of statistics in Rwanda (NSDS).
