Prof Cook holds a BSc Statistics from the University of Aberdeen, and a PhD in Public Health Medicine awarded in 2004. He was awarded Chartered Statistician Status by the RSS in 2019. Prof Cook has held an Associate Professor role at the University of Oxford since 2014.
