Christl Donnelly to deliver welcome lecture at RSS International Conference 2025

We’re delighted to announce that Professor Christl Donnelly CBE will deliver the welcome lecture on Monday 1 September at the 2025 RSS International Conference, taking place in Edinburgh.

A world-renowned statistician and epidemiologist, Professor Donnelly is celebrated for her pioneering work on the spread and control of infectious diseases. Her research has informed responses to major global health threats including Ebola, Zika virus, SARS, MERS, and Covid-19. She was a leading member of the WHO Ebola Response Team and has also contributed significantly to animal health and conservation, notably through her work on bovine TB and the Randomised Badger Culling Trial.

Her work on bovine TB has been expanded upon in our initiative Statistics Under Pressure, and she was an active part of the Society’s work on Covid-19 as part of our Covid-19 Task Force. Christl also previously served as the RSS Vice President for External Affairs from 2021 until 2024, playing a key role in promoting the value of statistics in public life.

Professor Donnelly brings a wealth of expertise and insight to this year’s conference. Her lecture promises to be a compelling start to an exciting programme of events.
