The recipient of the John Aitchison Prize in Statistics for 2023 has been announced.
Established in 2022 by the Hong Kong Statistical Society (HKSS), the prize is awarded in honour of the distinguished career and contributions of Professor John Aitchison (1926-2016), RSS fellow, founder and first president of the HKSS, and recipient of the Guy Medal in Silver in 1988. The purpose of the prize is to recognize excellence in PhD research, as demonstrated by a research paper, in statistics or a closely related discipline.
The 2023 recipient of the prize is Dr Jingming Wang (2021 PhD Graduate at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology) for her paper "Statistical inference for principal components of spiked covariance matrices," published in the Annals of Statistics, 50(2): 1144-1169 (2022). This paper is a joint work with Z.G. Bao, X.C. Ding and K. Wang.
