We are delighted to announce the winner of the 2021 Statistical Excellence in the Pharmaceutical Industry Award, which is presented jointly by the RSS and Statisticians in the Pharmaceutical Industry (PSI).
Dr Lisa Hampson (pictured), director of statistical methodology at Novartis, was presented with this year’s award at the PSI AGM. Her entry, 'Improving the assessment of the probability of success in drug development: A holistic framework encompassing statistical significance, regulatory approval, and market access' was considered by the judges to be an outstanding example of high-impact work within a large pharmaceutical setting. The panel was also impressed with the interdisciplinary approach taken and the commitment to satisfying user needs and overcoming challenges.
Lucy Rowell, Chair of PSI, said: 'It's great to see the evolutionary thinking Lisa brought to making the probability of technical success more robust, to aid our decision-making in drug development. I'm inspired by the impact she has brought within her company and that she has shared these learnings with the broader statistical community. An exceptionally worthy winner!'
Stian Westlake, RSS CEO, added: 'Dr Hampson is to be congratulated for this outstanding piece of work. Her innovative and collaborative approach and commitment to advancing decision-making has had a real impact.'
