We are pleased to announce that the winner of the 8th Mardia Prize for interdisciplinary workshops is Dr Eleni Elia, Senior Lecturer in Statistics and Mathematics at Oxford Brooks University.
The workshop series she has devised, consisting of five workshops that will be spread over two years, will bring together researchers from the humanities with an interest in migration and refugee studies. The workshop series will be partnered with the charity Refugee Education.
There will be active involvement in the operational teams linked to the Migration and Refugees Research Network (MRN) and Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics Network (AIDAN) to support, organise and run the workshop series.
Dr Eleni Elia said: ‘I am deeply honoured to receive the Mardia Prize from the Royal Statistical Society. As someone engaged across disciplines, I am excited by the opportunity this award provides to further promote the integration of statistical thinking into migration and refugee studies’.
The Mardia Prize, founded by Kanti Mardia, was created to fund cutting-edge interdisciplinary workshops bringing together statisticians with researchers from other scientific communities. Funding of £6,000–£8,000 is made available over two years to support these workshops.
