We are continuing our
research into poverty data gaps in the UK, funded by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation. Already, we've hosted two themed roundtables looking at the importance of
gendered issues and
wealth in poverty research.
Now, we're partnering with MenCap for the third roundtable in the series, this time focusing on data gaps around disability and poverty. We're inviting members to help contribute to this important conversation, which will take from 10:00 - 12:00 on Monday, December 1. The kinds of questions that will be explored include:
- What are the main questions relating to poverty that you are trying to answer?
- What do we already know about disability and poverty?
- What do we not know?
- What questions are our top priority to answer?
- What data sources do you rely on for answering those questions?
- If data do not exist, can you get an answer elsewhere? If so, how?
- What are the main challenges you've encountered when trying to answer your questions / use those data sources?
- Data quality, timeliness of publication, ease of access, level of detail, etc.
- How could the UK's stats producers improve the quality of the data they make available relating to disability?
- What resources would this require?
- Are there technical or conceptual barriers?
- In practical terms, how would the improved data benefit your work?
- How can the UK's stats producers better support you in your work?
- User engagement? Better publications for non-technical audiences? Better accessibility of data ? Etc.
If you have professional or personal interest in data-related issues at the intersection of disability and poverty and would like to attend, please email
policy@rss.org.uk with a short description of your background and expertise.
If you can't attend the roundtable but would like to feed into this work nonetheless, please fill out our
open call for input.
