Journal webinars are carefully programmed events featuring papers of significance from recent RSS journal issues. Authors present their work, selected by the journal webinar editorial board for its rigour, relevance and/or use of pioneering methodology, and then address questions from attendees.
Previous speakers include Bradley Efron, Elizabeth Ogburn and Peter Diggle.
The editorial board (chaired by Yi Yu, with Richard Samworth) collaborate to identify suitable journal papers and their author(s). We are actively looking for early career statisticians to join the board and contribute to the programme for a time commitment of 1-2 meetings per year.
Journal webinar advisory group member Professor Richard Samworth says the webinars ‘aim to highlight work published in RSS journals that are having particularly high impact and that deserve exposure to a broader audience. Advisory group members select suitable papers, and should have a wide appreciation of appropriate topics.
The role will see you participate in an impactful and evolving area of the Society’s activities. Free access to the RSS journals is provided to members. All administrative and technical support is provided by the RSS team at Errol Street. If you are interested in joining and would like further information, please email journal@rss.org.uk
Paper nominations
We warmly encourage paper nominations from RSS members. Papers can be on any subject and from Series A, B or C, but should not have been published within the last two years nor a ‘read’ or ‘discussion’ paper. Make your suggestion by emailing journal@rss.org.uk.
Journal webinars are free and open to all. They offer participants from anywhere in the world the opportunity to discuss, question and comment on key journal papers in a welcoming and receptive environment. Previous author Professor Sujit Sahu says that 'many more people came to know about our work… There were two discussants who gave valuable comments and feedback on our work. Such comments encouraged us to think about many other approaches to solve the problem.'
The webinars are available to watch afterwards on our journal webinars page, where you will also find full details.
