Nominations sought for new million-dollar statistics prize

A new biennial statistics prize, worth one million US dollars and celebrating pioneering work in statistical methodology, will be awarded in 2022 for the first time.

The Rousseeuw Prize for Statistics has been created by the King Baudouin Foundation in Belgium and is named after its sponsor, the statistician Peter J Rousseeuw.

One of the goals of the prize is 'to promote awareness of the important role and intellectual content of statistics and its profound impact on human endeavors'.

It will be awarded in even years, starting in 2022, and the million US dollar prize may be split over awardees if there are several, which it is hoped will typically be the case. The first award ceremony is scheduled for November 2022 at the University of Leuven, Belgium.

Nominations, including letters of recommendation, are to be submitted by 31 March 2022 on the website www.rousseeuwprize.org which contains all information about the prize and nomination procedure. The ceremony will take place in November of 2022 at the University of Leuven, Belgium.
