We’re delighted that a number of RSS fellows have been recognised in the 2021 Queen’s Birthday Honours.
Professor John Aston was knighted for ‘services to statistics and public policymaking.’ John is currently Harding professor of statistics in public life at Cambridge University, and was Chief Scientific Adviser and Director-General for science, technology, analysis, research and strategy (STARS) at the Home Office from 2017-2020.
Myer Glickman, current head of epidemiology, climate and global health, and former head of quality, methods and international at the Office for National Statistics, was awarded an OBE for ‘services to health analysis’.
Professor Azra Ghani, professor of infectious disease epidemiology atImperial College London and associate director of the MRC Centre for Global Infectious Disease Analysis, was awarded an MBE ‘for services to infectious disease control and epidemiological research’.
The list also included many of those helping to tackle the pandemic (almost 23%), including key figures behind the UK’s vaccination programme, with damehoods going to Kate Bingham, who chaired the Vaccine Taskforce, and Professor Sarah Gilbert of the Jenner Institute for her role in the development of a Covid-19 vaccine.
