Professor Mark Brewer has been appointed as the programme chair for the RSS 2022 International Conference which takes place in Aberdeen, Scotland, 12-15 September next year.
Mark Brewer is director of Biomathematics and Statistics Scotland (BioSS) and his research interests include Bayesian statistics, species distribution modelling and statistical consultancy. Mark has brought statistical insight to projects in ecology, hydrology, soil science, analytical chemistry, product authenticity, socio-economics and forensic science. Mark’s national and international collaborations include work with NatureScot, JNCC and the New Zealand government on topics such as herbivore grazing, marine protected areas and validating manuka honey, and on statistical methodology with the University of Valencia and the marine research centre AZTI in Spain.
Mark commented, 'It is an honour to be invited to be the programme chair for the RSS Conference in Aberdeen next year. Scotland has a strong reputation in the academic disciplines of statistics and data science, not only within universities and in industry, but at research institutes and in government departments and agencies too. It is my hope that RSS 2022 will bring together researchers and practitioners from across the UK and beyond, and serve to showcase the best of statistics in Scotland, whether innovative methodological research, high-impact applied work addressing important societal problems, or computational research to extract the most information from data."
Submissions for invited topic sessions at the conference will open over this summer - keep an eye on the RSS website for updates.
