Significance magazine has announced that science journalist and author Angela Saini will give its keynote lecture during the Royal Statistical Society 2020 Conference in Bournemouth.
Angela Saini presents radio and television programmes on the BBC and her two-part Inferior: How Science Got Women Wrong, was published in 2017 and has been translated into eleven languages.
Her writing has appeared in the Guardian, Sunday Times, Prospect, New Scientist, New Humanist and Wired among others. She has won several national and international journalism awards.
Brian Tarran, editor of Significance, said, 'I am delighted that Angela Saini has agreed to give the Significance keynote lecture at this year’s RSS Conference. Her book, Superior, was published around the time that the statistics community was considering the legacy of Francis Galton, a hugely important figure in statistics but also eugenics. Saini’s book and her recent BBC documentary help us to confront the disturbing history of eugenics, while offering lessons – and warnings – for science today. It will certainly be a thought-provoking lecture.'
Angela joins a growing list of plenary speakers for the RSS 2020 Conference, which will take place from 7-10 September at the Bournemouth International Centre. Full details are available from the conference website.
