This RSS North Eastern local group event will be the annual Richard James Boys lecture, jointly hosted as a colloquium with the School of Mathematics, Statistics and Physics at Newcastle University. The speaker will be Dr Daniel Henderson, Newcastle University.
Abstract:
This talk will describe collaborative work with Stephen Johnson and the late Richard Boys on the analysis of rank-ordered data. Such data frequently arise in many areas of application, often through preferences or as a result of competition. To uncover potential subgroup structures, a flexible Bayesian nonparametric model is introduced for clustering both observations (orderings) and entities. The model employs a weighted adapted nested Dirichlet (WAND) process mixture of Plackett-Luce models, with posterior sampling conducted via a simple and efficient Gibbs sampling scheme. Several real data examples will be used to demonstrate the methods, including new examples that, I hope, would have met with Richard's approval.
