In 2019 the Royal Statistical Society established a Finance and Economics Special Interest Group. In 1834 the Prospectus of the Statistical Society of London, ancestor of the RSS, divided statistics into four great classes—headed by “Economical Statistics.” This talk examines the changing relationship between economics and statistics in the intervening years.
