We are excited to invite you to our joint event with RSS Statisticians for Society at 2pm. The talk will be preceded by the Annual General Meeting of the Local Group at 1.40pm.

Clement Lee will be talking about his experience of taking part in the Statisticians for Society initiative. A background to the talk is provided below:

Freegle is a non-profitable online platform which helps people to give away and get things for free. In this work, the activity of individual users is statistically analysed. The effect on the probability of a successful exchange by both the number of messages frequency and the physical distance between users is quantified by a modified logistic regression model. The network of interacting users is visualised, with some suggestions of network modelling provided, to enable comparison with the existing communities of Freegle.

Clement Lee is a lecturer in statistics at Newcastle University. His current research focuses on Bayesian hierarchical modelling and statistical models for networks, and is an advocate for reproducibility in the statistics and wider community
