Our journal
RSS: Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, launched in 2024, is looking for a new editor to succeed Neil Lawrence and join the current Editors in Cheif (EiC), Sach Mukherjee and Silvia Chiappa.
The role will involve assessing newly submitted manuscripts to decide whether they should proceed to full peer review. The volume of submissions is anticipated to grow steadily over the next few years.
The editorships of the Society’s journals are important and prestigious positions, but they are also demanding and time consuming. The people who undertake them perform an invaluable service for the Society. We are looking for someone with journal editorial experience, expertise in the fields of AI and data science, and who can commit to proactive management of the peer review process alongside their EiC colleagues.
The wider aspects of the role include contributing to the ongoing formulation and review of policy with the publishers (Oxford University Press) and the Society, contributing ideas for special issues, engaging with potential authors and inviting submissions and helping to publicize the journal within your networks.
To nominate either yourself or someone you think would be suitable for the role, email Judith Shorten at
journal@rss.org.uk with a paragraph detailing the nominee's experience by
24 February 2025. Ideally, nominees should agree to their nomination.
All nominations will be kept confidential and passed to the search committee for consideration after the deadline.
