Help Shape the UK's Population Statistics: Join ONS-OSR Roundtable

The Royal Statistical Society, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) and the Office for Statistics Regulation (OSR) are inviting members of the statistical community to register their interest in joining a forthcoming roundtable on the development of population statistics ahead of the 2031 Census.

The event will take place on Tuesday 25 November, from 9.30am to 12pm, at the UK Statistics Authority offices on Marsham Street, London, with online participation also available.

The roundtable will bring together experts, senior colleagues in the statistical system, and users of population data to discuss how population statistics can best meet the needs of government, civil society, business and local communities over the coming years.

Participants will be invited to share their views on a series of key questions, including:

  • How can the proposed 2031 Census design meet user needs, particularly for sub-national populations and smaller population sub-groups?

  • What do users need from population statistics between now and 2031, and how can ONS, NRS and NISRA respond?

  • What are the major methodological challenges and opportunities in developing administrative and alternative data sources to complement the 2031 Census?

If you have insight on these questions and would like to attend the roundtable to discuss them, please complete this form to register your interest. In addition to invited speakers, we expect to be able to invite 3–5 additional people who have registered an interest. The decision on who to invite will be based on ensuring that a range of views and novel insights are represented at the meeting.

Further details, including joining instructions for those attending online, will be circulated closer to the date. The roundtable will run as a hybrid event, with participants able to take part either in person at the UK Statistics Authority offices or remotely.
