Nominations for the John Maddox Prize 2022 are now open. A joint initiative between Sense About Science with the scientific journal Nature, the prize recognises researchers who have shown great courage and integrity in standing up for science and scientific reasoning, and advanced public discussion of difficult topics, despite fierce opposition and hostility.
The organisers are looking for nominations of brave researchers for this prestigious award and encourage colleagues to do so. There is a main prize and an early career prize, with previous winners from around the world (including Dr Elisabeth Bik in 2021 and Professor Bambang Hero Saharjo in 2019) vocal about the support and protection that recognition has given them.
Since its instigation in 2012, the Maddox Prize has become the preeminent international award recognising researchers’ integrity and courage in the face of hostility: it inspires and encourages people the world over to do the same, acknowledging that we don’t yet live in a world where all researchers feel safe to speak out openly and honestly about their findings. The prize promotes a culture where researchers can engage society in difficult conversations about evidence without fear of professional or personal consequences.
Nominations are open until Monday 16 May 2022, with the winners announced later in the year. Please share the link with your networks, as this is a truly global prize open to all disciplines.
