Education: Undergraduate degree in statistics; master's in biostatistics; PhD in statistical epidemiology

With a solid foundation in statistics and programming, I started self-learning data science, and complimenting that with certifications, finding it a natural progression given my background. My career has been deeply rooted in data ever since

Research interests: The use of statistical and data science approaches using real-world data to advance sustainable development goals

My dream job aligns closely with what I do—applying my expertise in statistics and data science to solve real-world problems and contribute meaningfully.

Leadership philosophy: Leadership means building trust and working together to make a difference

Leadership to me means making a positive difference in the lives of people and the communities they serve while making room for their growth. By setting a good example, you guide and inspire others to work towards a specific goal. It may involve making tough decisions for the greater good, but it will require building trust and taking responsibility.

Aims as a Future Leader: Help ensure data-driven decisions reflect society and create space for diverse voices

This program offers a space for young leaders to share innovative ideas towards ensuring data-driven decisions reflect the society they're meant to serve. I am glad to be a part of that. In addition, being a part of the RSS will open up networking opportunities for me, allowing me to develop and nurture my growth as a leader in the field.

Role model: Dr Elasma Milanzi, my sister

She has provided unwavering support through every major milestone in my career, both professionally and personally. Observing her successful journey as a statistician has been incredibly motivating, providing me with a clear blueprint for success to follow.

Advice to young statisticians: Keep learning and pay close attention to the little things, because the world of data always changes

Make sure you really understand the basics, like stats and coding, and use what you learn on actual projects to get better. Stick with it, even when it's tough, and be careful and thorough with your work.
