Future Leader Profile: Andrea Aparicio
Position: Senior Research Fellow in Bayesian Digital Demography at the Leverhulme Centre for Demographic Science (LCDS) at the University of Oxford, and Honorary Research Fellow in Social Statistics at the University of Manchester.
My career in data began with my interest in the link between sociology and statistics. I developed a keen interest in understanding societal patterns and behaviours. This curiosity led me to further specialise in statistics, combining my sociological insights with quantitative skills.
Education: Sociology undergraduate from the National University of Colombia, PhD in Social Statistics from the University of Manchester, and an accredited Teaching Fellow of the Advance Higher Education Institution.
Research interests: PhD focussed on migration flows in South America using complex demographic research.
This blend of sociology, statistics and demographic studies oriented my career to my current role as a researcher and educator in the field of social statistics.
Leadership philosophy: Leadership is about empowering others to achieve their potential. It includes guiding a team towards a common goal and fostering an environment of collaboration.
I believe that the essence of leadership is about being a mentor and a catalyst for growth and development, both within an organisation and in the broader community.
Aims as a Future Leader: To enhance leadership skills within the statistical community and thereby further my contribution to the field.
The program's focus on developing future leaders who can innovate and drive change in the field of statistics aligned perfectly with my career aspirations. Participating in this program offered me a unique platform to connect with other emerging leaders, exchange ideas, and learn new strategies for leading impactful projects in social statistics.
