Leave a gift in your Will to the Royal Statistical Society
By leaving a gift to the RSS in your Will, you can empower the next generation of statisticians to carry forward our mission and support our charitable aims.
Every gift, no matter the size, makes a difference to what we can achieve.

What are gifts in Wills?
A gift in a Will – also known as a legacy – is a way to leave a sum of money, or a percentage of your financial assets, to a person or organisation after you pass away.
Even a small percentage can be left as a gift in your Will, allowing you to support a cause you care about while ensuring your loved ones inherit the majority.
Wills can be made – and amended – at any stage in your life
-
Why should I leave a gift in my Will to the RSS?
Since 1834, members of the Royal Statistical Society have championed the highest standards of statistics and data analysis, safeguarded the public interest through responsible use of data, and helped society make sense of complex statistical issues.
Together, we have created an inclusive, supportive community where statisticians learn, connect, and develop.
By leaving a gift in your Will, you can continue to play a part in this community beyond your own lifetime, supporting the statisticians of the future.
As a registered charity, we do not receive any government funding; most of our income is from membership fees, publications, events and training.

How can I leave a gift in my Will?
Even a small percentage of your financial assets can be left as a gift in your Will, ensuring that your loved ones are taken care of first and that they inherit the majority.
If you already have a Will, you can simply phone your solicitor with the following details:
Charity name: Royal Statistical Society
Registered charity number: 306096
If you don’t yet have a Will, the main steps to create one are:
- Value your estate
- Decide how to distribute your estate
- Consider remembering a charity (see above for how to include the RSS)
- Name executors and guardians
- Consider your digital assets
- Make sure your Will is valid
- Store your Will safely
This list is taken from
rememberacharity.org.uk/making-a-will/, which explains each step in detail; please do visit the link for more helpful information.
-
How will my gift be spent?
A gift in your Will could:
- Open the door to talented young people who might otherwise face barriers to entering the profession
- Ensure that statisticians at all stages of their career have access to the training and mentoring they need to reach the next level
- Fund our work to keep statisticians abreast of latest developments in the field
- Help us promote the effective use of statistics in the UK and around the world, where data-driven insights can transform lives
- Enable the RSS to launch task forces and undertake research to respond to challenges as they occur, and ensure that knowledge gets into the hands of the people who need it
- Ensure that your successors continue to have a welcoming place to share ideas, support and inspire each other, and drive positive change.
